If you could speak about one subject that you are passionate about what would it be?
Every month, three guest speakers talk on a topic close to their heart. It could be on the arts, science or nature; about an abstract concept or a physical object of desire; a moment in history or perhaps a tiny fragment of their life.
Past Speakeasy’s have included talks by naturalists, in the buff (naturally!) talking about their passion for walking naked in the countryside, a man talking about his passion for cornershop newsagents and the delights they hold therein, a talk on why we should embrace failure, on what it was like living on a canal boat for 10 years, about Lego, biscuits, disused tube stations of London, lawnmowers (by a man with UKs largest collection of them!), and about teaching a town to play the ukulele.
You never know what you will get as we don’t announce the subjects ahead of the night, but we promise you will go away with food for thought!
This month we will have 3 talks that promise to entertain, enlighten and educate – sometimes all three.
Doors are at 7.30pm, with first talk at 8.15pm
NOTE: Members & non-members tickets all the same price (10% discounted drinks for members)

The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot-to-dot journey of the tracks that led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track that opened doors, the track that closed doors, a track that inspired and led to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, CD or streamed – and discussed with the artist.

On Friday 6th of November we bring techno and electronica pioneer Mike Paradinas to Worthing to discuss the 10 songs which have defined his creative career.
Hailing from Raynes Park in South West London, Mike Paradinas began operating under the name μ-Ziq whilst studying Architecture at Kingston University in 1991. He eventually left the degree to concentrate all efforts towards his music on a full-time basis. His early recordings first emerged on the Rephlex label with the now classic ‘Tango N’Vectif’ back in 1993, followed a few months later by a second, ‘Bluff Limbo’ – on it’s initial promo run of 1000 copies, it rapidly gained a noteriety out of all proportion to it’s availability, even entering the NME top 50 albums of 1994.
In March 1995, Mike signed to the major label Virgin Records and released the ‘Salsa With Mesquite’ EP and the album ‘In Pine Effect’ about which Melody Maker said “This is ‘techno’ elevated above the mere functionalism of the dancefloor, lighting fires in the heart and painting pictures for the mind’s eye.”

Tickets are available for the Defining Ten AND DJ set, or access to DJ set and guest DJs only.

SATURDAY 14th NOVEMBER
Cellar Dweller presents another evening of genre-fluid chaos back at THE CELLAR ARTS CLUB, WORTHING, featuring;

FRACTURED favourites from Brighton

who say “We are Jeff, Jamie, John and Citizen Dave.
We could be anyone. But we’re Fractured and have been for a while.

Life is tough, complicated and absurd.

We write songs that try to make sense of it all with grit, humour, and energy”

TOO LOUD FOR TUESDAY all the way down from Leicester

Several stalwarts of the infamous Grebo Scene, now together in a recently formed group, playing a tight set influenced by hard British R’n’B, 60’s Garage, and even a bit of Madchester!

plus Cellar Dweller regulars, THE QWARKS doing whatever it is they do, THE CRUMPETS with their wild and imaginative Burlesque routines, and DJ SPIN CYCLE and his enigmatic vinyl collection. He may also bring his Psychedelic Lighting Rig. Fingers crossed!

All for a fiver? Wow!

Cellar Arts Club are proud to present…..

ANDERSON FROM CRAZYHEAD AND THE HEADONISTS
Ian Anderson, originally the vocalist of late 80s garage rock revisionists / unexpected grebo members CRAZYHEAD showcases his current band of ne’er-do-wells THE HEADONISTS.
A swaggering, high‑voltage outfit blending sharp songwriting with a louche, late‑night charm; they sound like a band permanently on the brink of something dangerous and fun.
Support comes from….

THE QWARKS
3 Brighton musicians who formed a ‘Rock Trio’ in a cloud of late 60’s early 70’s wah-wah and big collars.
They are of an age where reason and criticism have no useful effect.

GRIPPER LEE
A big sound, reminiscent of classic 1980s post-punk and goth, delivered with plenty of energy and attitude.

FRCTY
Downtown Worthing’s very own black-clad gentlemanly post-rock garage triumvirate of terror

FREE ENTRY
Time to dust off your DM’s, find that plaid shirt from the back of the cupboard and don your ripped jeans. Come down to your Cellar Arts Club to revisit the late 80’s and early 90’s alternative rock scene with DIRTY BOOTS.

SONIC YOUTH – DINOSAUR JR – HÜSKER DÜ – PIXIES – JANES ADDICTION – SOUNDGARDEN – ALICE IN CHAINS – LOVE BATTERY – MADDER ROSE – FAITH NO MORE- BABES IN TOYLAND – RATM – GREEN RIVER – PAVEMENT – BUTTHOLE SURFERS – NIRVANA – MUDHONEY – TAD – MELVINS – VERUCA SALT – BELLY – SCREAMING TREES – FAITH NO MORE – HOLE and many MANY more!
